Pre Care

Discover helpful tips for a comfortable, safer sugaring appointment. Learn the reasoning behind our recommendations so you can understand why we strongly encourage clients to follow them.

Having the Right Hair Length

Before you are ready to sugar, your hair must be at least the length of a grain of rice. If it is longer, that is totally okay. If it is shorter, the sugar paste will have a hard time attaching to the hair. Ensure you do not shave or trim before an appointment.

Lotions

We know creams, lotions, and oils are part of daily routines. However, they also prevent the sugar paste from sticking to the hairs. Skip them on appointment day to avoid having to reschedule.

Sun Exposure / Tanning

Sun exposure can make skin more sensitive and prone to irritation. Because sugaring gently exfoliates the skin, avoid tanning or prolonged sun exposure for at least 24 to 48 hours before your appointment.

Retinoids (Retinol, Tretinoin) & Accutane

Certain medications, such as retinoids or Accutane, can make skin thinner and more sensitive. They increase cell turnover and can thin the outer layer of skin. Mention this in Fresha when booking, or book a consultation if you are using these medications.

Exfoliate 3 Days Before Your Appointment

To optimize your results, exfoliate 3 days beforehand. This removes dead skin cells and helps hair stand out. It must be at least 3 days before your appointment so skin has time to recover.

Post Care

Being sugared feels amazing, but the experience does not end when you leave. The way you treat your skin after makes a big difference in keeping your results smooth and free of reactions.

Keep Serviced Skin Clean

After sugaring, your pores are more open and your skin has been freshly exfoliated. Keeping the area clean helps reduce irritation, breakouts, and ingrown hairs.

Keep Serviced Skin Moisturized

Sugaring gently exfoliates the top layer of skin, which can leave it slightly dry. Moisturizing helps restore the skin barrier and support healthy hair regrowth.

Staying Well Hydrated

Hydrated skin is more resilient and heals more efficiently. Drinking enough water supports skin recovery and helps maintain smooth, healthy-looking results.

Wear Loose Clothing

Tight clothing creates friction and traps heat and moisture against the skin. Wearing loose-fitting garments allows the area to breathe and reduces the chance of irritation or ingrown hairs.

Avoid Saunas, Direct Sunlight, and Tanning Machines for 24 Hours

Heat increases inflammation and can make freshly sugared skin more sensitive. Avoiding saunas, sun exposure, and tanning beds helps minimize redness, irritation, and hyperpigmentation.

Avoid Exercising for 24 Hours

Sweat and friction can irritate freshly treated skin and introduce bacteria into open pores. Giving skin 24 hours to calm down helps prevent breakouts and discomfort.

Avoid Exfoliating for 24 Hours

Your skin has already been exfoliated during sugaring. Exfoliating too soon can cause over-exfoliation, leading to sensitivity, redness, or irritation.

Follow Up Appointments

When we do not maintain consistency with follow-up appointments every 4 to 6 weeks, different hair growth stages can overlap and disrupt desired results. For consistent smoothness, we recommend visiting every 4 to 6 weeks unless advised otherwise by your technician.
