Booking Basics

We trust Fresha with our booking. Our How it Works section has an extended explanation on the four easy steps of booking with us. Quickly summarized, our clients book on Fresha, select an esthetician, a time, and their services. We also require a 30% deposit to confirm the appointment.

How to Prepare

No need for any special preparation beyond letting your hair grow. Just ensure that your hair is at least the height of a grain of rice with at least three weeks between your last appointment. Also, sugaring exfoliates your skin so exfoliating before your appointment is not recommended.

Pre Care

Things to avoid before coming in to your sugaring appointment.

Do not trim or shave prior to your appointment.

No creams, lotions, oils, or deodorants to the area on the day of your appointment, as these prevent the sugaring paste from sticking to the hairs and make removal more difficult.

Avoid exposure to the sun or tanning for at least 24 to 48 hours before. If you are taking certain medications like Retinoids or Accutane, consult a doctor beforehand or book a consultation.

Arriving to your Appointment

Important tips before coming in to your sugaring appointment.

  • Arrive 5 minutes prior to your appointment. Think about your commute and allow yourself time for traffic, TTC malfunctions, and enough time to find our establishment.
  • If you are worried about the pain, you can take an over-the-counter pain reliever about 30 to 45 minutes before your session or call us to add a numbing cream service. You will need to arrive 30 minutes prior to your appointment to allow numbing cream to work.
  • Pro tip: To optimize your results exfoliate 2 to 3 days beforehand to remove dead skin cells and help the hair stand out, but do not exfoliate on the day of the appointment.

Post Care

Most reactions to sugaring can be easily avoided by following these few tips.

Keep serviced skin clean.

Keep serviced skin moisturized.

Stay well hydrated.

Wear loose clothing.

No saunas, direct sunlight, or tanning machines. Avoid heat.

Avoid exercising for 24 hours.

Avoid exfoliating for 24 hours.

Avoid tight clothing.

Avoid touching the sugared area.

Possible Reactions

We operate with honesty and integrity. It is our duty to educate new clients who may experience mild skin reactions. These are strictly cosmetic, temporary, and nothing to worry about. If you are really concerned, call to book an in-person consultation and a patch test. Read below about the most common skin responses.

  • Hives occur in 10 to 25% of new clients. They are histamine responses to hair being pulled from the follicle, and most resolve within 24 hours.
  • Redness is common for new clients in the sugared area. Hair bulbs are largest when they have never been sugared, leading to redness and mild irritation.
  • Pustules are small white pus-filled bumps that are a normal healing response, not an infection. They form when hair is extracted, allowing natural skin fluids to collect in the empty follicle. They are itchy, so do not scratch them, as that can prolong their stay. This happens in 5 to 20% of new clients, mainly for curly hair, and can last for 24 to 72 hours.

Rebooking & Questions

The more you sugar, the better for you. Consistent sugaring will weaken the hair follicle, resulting in thinner hair and delayed regrowth over time. We recommend booking 4 to 6 weeks after your appointment. Booking in this window will give you a cheaper price as well. Please ask your esthetician any questions you might have. Feel free to set up your next appointment with our receptionist as well.
